The New York register

New York craft cannabis in Brooklyn

Know the farm before you open the jar.

Hii NYC, a licensed Brooklyn dispensary in Williamsburg and Bay Ridge, stocks flower and pre-rolls from 17 New York producers, 13 of them licensed microbusinesses, grown across 16 counties. Each is matched to the state license registry.

Chapter III · The letter of the law

What does craft cannabis mean in New York?

In New York, craft is a legal term. State regulation 9 NYCRR 118.1(b)(31) defines a craft product as flower or pre-rolls that are hang-dried, processed and manufactured entirely by a licensed microbusiness, or by a Tier 1 cultivator using only plants it grew. Advertising may use the word only for products that qualify.

Who can make it
A licensed New York microbusiness of any type, or a Tier 1 cultivator processing only plants it grew
What it covers
Flower and pre-rolls, plus any product that meets the Office's craft designation
How it is dried
Hang-dried, the way a barn full of harvest is hung from the rafters
Where the rule lives
9 NYCRR 118.1(b)(31) defines it; 9 NYCRR 129.2(b)(19) limits the word in advertising
How Hii applies it
Every card states its producer's license type. A Craft label is added only after a producer's Office of Cannabis Management craft designation is confirmed, not because a brand calls itself craft.
How we verified
Each brand is matched to the state license registry, which lists license type, county and cultivation method
A candlelit harvest table with an open almanac, a brass scale, dried leaves and white pumpkins

Every jar on this shelf has a return address.

Chapter I · The Craft Shelf

New York craft cannabis, starting with who grows it

Know the farm before you open the jar.

Every producer on this shelf holds a New York Office of Cannabis Management microbusiness or cultivator license. We matched each brand to the state's license registry, and the license number is printed on its card. New York's legal definition of craft names flower and pre-rolls, so that is what this shelf holds. How we apply the law.

Questions from the counter

New York craft cannabis, answered

What is a New York cannabis microbusiness?

A microbusiness is a New York adult-use cannabis license that lets one small operator grow, process, distribute and sell its own cannabis. The Office of Cannabis Management publishes every license, with its county and cultivation type, in a public registry anyone can search.

How can I tell which products on the Hii shelf are craft?

Every product card names its producer, the town or county on its state license, and its license type, such as NY microbusiness or NY cultivator. New York reserves the word craft for products from processors the Office of Cannabis Management designates, so Hii adds a Craft label only after that designation is confirmed for a producer.

What is the difference between indoor, greenhouse and sun-grown cannabis?

Indoor cannabis grows entirely under artificial light in a controlled room. Greenhouse cannabis, which the state registry calls mixed light, grows under sunlight with supplemental lighting. Sun-grown cannabis, listed as outdoor, grows in open ground under natural light and is usually harvested in the fall.

Which New York producers at Hii NYC are women-owned, minority-owned or veteran-owned?

Women-owned, per the state registry: North Fork Cannabis Collective, 518 Hollow, Sticky's Weed Farm, Rolling Hills Wellness and LEAL (Sapphire Farms). Minority-owned: SP Farms, 6 Point Cannabis, TKS Sensei and Hybrid Theory. Service-disabled veteran-owned: LeadFarmer and TKS Sensei. These categories come from each license's social and economic equity designation in the Office of Cannabis Management registry.
